Food Security

Food insecurity refers to limited, inconsistent, or uncertain availability of safe and nutritionally adequate foods; or the limited, inconsistent, or uncertain access to such food. The Basic Needs Task Force’s goal is to ensure that every member of the Carolina community is food secure, meaning they have access to nutritious options without barriers.  

  • Campus Food Pantries
    • Carolina Cupboard – On-campus food pantry that provides food and some personal toiletries at no cost to the Carolina community who are facing food insecurity. The Carolina Cupboard is located in SASB North, first floor, room 1221. For additional information please visit their website. You can also contact them at [email protected].  
    • CJ's Cupboard – On-campus food pantry that is accessible to members of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. It is located in 2210 McGavran-Greenberg Hall. For additional information please visit their website.   
    • Jessica's Cupboard – On-campus pantry for nursing students only. For additional information, contact the Office of Student Affairs for the UNC School of Nursing.  
    • Bondurant Hall Food Pantry – On-campus food pantry located in Bondurant Hall 1072. This pantry primarily serves students in the health sciences or that have classes near Bondurant Hall but is open to any member of the Carolina community.
    • Bynum Hall Food Pantry – On-campus food pantry that primarily serves graduate students. This pantry is located in Bynum Hall at The Graduate School.
    • UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Food Pantry – On-campus pantry located in McColl Hall on the third floor located in the wellness suite. This pantry primarily serves students in the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School or whose classes are located near Kenan-Flagler.
  • Edible Campus UNC – A program that has created a production garden in the heart of campus located directly behind Davis Library, as well as eight satellite garden sites throughout campus. Gardens are filled with vegetables, fruits, herbs, etc. The produce is free for anyone in the community.
  • Community resources – there are several resources that exist in the community for individuals who can benefit from additional food resources.
  • Campus Dining Meal Cards – limited number of Meal Cards have been donated by Campus Dining to the Dean of Students office and Financial Aid office. If you are in need, please contact the Dean of Students office through a care referral below and share you would like assistance with meal cards or food support.
