As Tar Heels prepare for spring break, learn about resources for undergraduate and graduate students who plan to stay on or near campus. Check out the various departments, events, and ways to care for yourself during the break listed below. By taking good care of yourself, you’ll be able to return rested, rejuvenated, and ready to finish the semester strong. If you plan to travel abroad, learn the latest travel guidance from the U.S. Department of State.
Campus resources
- Campus Health: Campus Health and CAPS will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. weekdays during spring break as well as Saturday, March 21. Physical therapy will be closed over spring break. When Campus Health or CAPS are closed, students can receive 24/7 support by calling (919) 966-2281 for UNC Nurse Connect and on-call providers at (919) 966-3658 for CAPS 24/7.
- Campus Recreation: Campus Recreation will have reduced facility hours for spring break. All facilities will close at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Spring break weekends, Rams Head will be open noon – 6 p.m. On Monday and Tuesday, the SRC will be open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. On Wednesday Rams Head will be open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. On Thursday and Friday, Rams Head will be open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., and then again Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. All other facilities will be closed during spring break. There will not be any group fitness classes scheduled during spring break.
- Carolina Dining Services: Lenoir Hall and Chase Hall will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Many additional locations on campus are open during weekdays. Students can use flex to order delivery anywhere on campus from Takeout Central (access to delivery from over 30 local restaurants). Many local restaurants are open and offer take-out and delivery options. For information on local restaurants visit What’s Open Downtown and consider other local delivery and pickup options, such as grocery stores.
- Carolina Union: The Carolina Union will be open until 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 13. It will be closed on March 14, 15, and 21 and have limited hours March 16 — 20. It will reopen on Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
- Student Wellness: Student Wellness will operate during its regular hours of 9 a.m. — 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday of spring break and will be open 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
- UNC Student Stores: During spring break, UNC Student Stores will be open weekdays 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and weekends 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., except Thursday, March 19, when the building will be closed for inventory. Student Stores Pharmacy will be open during spring break on Saturdays 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., weekdays 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. but closed Thursday, March 19. Student Stores Mini Clinic will be open weekdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and also closed Thursday, March 19.
- University Library: Check this website for up-to-date information on accessing University Library during spring break.
- Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services: VPAS will maintain standard operating hours, which are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. All confidential support and services are available during this time. To schedule a time to meet, please email vpas_support@unc.edu or call (919) 962-1343.
Health and well-being
Basic needs
The Carolina Food Pantry Network locations are open during spring break. Students can visit the Bynum Hall pantry, Kenan-Flagler pantry in the McColl Building, Bondurant Hall pantry or the Carolina Cupboard during their normal operating hours over spring break.
Financial well-being
Take time to check out the Carolina Financial Well-Being Center, a resource for Tar Heels that can help students navigate student loans, budgeting, saving for retirement, and much more.

Here are some strategies to maintain well-being over the break:
